Antlers In The Forest - The Start of ArtisanBound.com Was inspired By A Normal Walk In The Woods!

Antlers In The Forest

In my younger adult years, I became more interested in the outdoors and more detached from the indoor world. TV, games, and being cooped up in the house was boring for me. I started to take random adventures in the forest with my wife and two German shepherds. We would just drive along the woods, find a spot that looked fun, and just start walking any which way we felt like. Every weekend we would go to a new spot or area to explore. We would always be sure to avoid any paths or trails, keeping to the thick woods seeking nothing more than fun exploration. Along one of our trips, my wife found a very awesome set of antlers, 5 points on each side meant these sheds were from a big buck who cruised our neck of the woods.
We got back home with the antlers, I loved them so much that I wanted to do something with them. I just had no idea what it was I wanted to do. We went back out the following week and my wife found yet ANOTHER antler. This one was a smaller 3 point shed, and we found only the one antler this time, no complete set. I started with this small damaged antler, and made a knife handle for a blade I was fond of. I then took two swords i displayed in my study and made antler handles for them and a wall plaque. This is what started it all. To this day my antler handle swords are displayed on my study wall as a piece of art / work that I and only I value beyond anything material I possess.
We enjoyed working with these raw materials and started to make jewelry, and in days we had people asking us "where did you get that?! I want one!"
From this point on our fun side hobby became a fun side business. We had many requests from locals for our work. Once this took off on a local scale, we started up our Etsy and eBay shop, and a month later we opened the ArtisanBound.com website to make it quick and easy for people all over the USA to order our work! Within a couple of months after luckily finding that 10 point buck shed set, we became something awesome and fun! We now proudly work daily on new and unique items all one of a kind. We offer great prices on some of the wildest items you have ever seen made with antlers!
We proudly design creative one of a kind items to sell and ship anywhere in the USA! God bless America and warm wishes from our family to yours!

The Hunters Blade - Passion For Hunting Knives & Rustic Life From www.ArtisanBound.com

The Hunter's Blade

Before the start of NorthRustic.com there was one item I loved making for myself and for my friends and family, antler handle knives. When we found that first set of antlers in the woods I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them before I even got home. In my hunting pack, I always keep a hatchet and hunting survival knife. After finding two beautiful large antlers, what better than to update my current gear with a little antler style? I got home, cleaned up and refined the antler then began to take apart (not fun or easy) the knife and hatchet from their current metal handles.
Once I took apart the blades and had the redone with antler handles, I tested them. I brought down the full weight of my hatchet on a large wood stump multiple times, trying to break the antler or loosen the ax head best I could. I repeated this with my hatchet and knife for a while and when both looked the same as they did when the work was finished, I knew I had something unique and awesome.
Over the months during the hunting season, when returning to camp and unloading my gear I would get asked by the guys where I got my antler handle tools. After showing them off and feeling proud, I told them I made it. Well, a few days after camp I was called and had someone I met requesting me to make them an antler handle knife. As the weeks went on from there it slowly but surely turned from one or two guys wanting a knife to a group / following of people interested in our work and designs.
The inspiration and start of NorthRustic.com was born from this event. Something I made personally for myself lead to what we now have today, over 30 new and unique one of a kind antler handle blades available to anyone in the USA with our online shop! The first thing I ever made and listed on our shop was an antler handle knife, and to this day it is still my favorite item to craft (second is antler lamps).

By Lake and Sea - ArtisanBound.com Natural Jewelry and More!

The First Wave

It all started with the small but exciting success Antler handmade products that inspired me to start up Ocean theme items on Christmas Eve 2017. My husband has always been fond of the north, the cold, mountains covered in pine trees layered in snow was his calling. Mine? Not so much. While I preferred the fall time and warmer temperatures, I still understood what he saw and appreciated in the northern cold landscapes.  His inspiration was what he loved. Hunting, woods, cold...wild. So, while helping my husband with the shop that we started up together, I ran across some of my finer jewelry I had in my younger years. I was on the swim team all High school. I loved the sea, I loved to swim, I loved marine life and the vast diversity of animals and colors found throughout the seas and reefs.  To me, there is no greater beauty on earth than what lies below the sea. Coral reefs with so much life and colors it would make a rainbow jealous. Seashells with such awkward sizes, shapes, colors...yet, always perfected by nature. Nothing is more exciting for me than creating beautiful home decor and jewelry with the seas treasures. I love to work with seashells, sharks teeth, clams, sand dollars, star fish, puffer fish, and MUCH more.   As I write this blog post today, I have only 25 items in our stores grand opening shop. Check back with ArtisanBound.com every week and see all the cool unique new stuff we will have! We make everything by hand, so when you shop with us you get unique one of a kind items!

Waves Of Steel - Antler, Bone, Ram Horn and Wood Handle Damascus Knives!

We proudly offer many types of handmade goods, one of our most popular items is Antler handle knives, with the Damascus steel flavor! Why? Well some people love the design of the wavy / water ripple looking patterns Damascus is known for. Others know that Damascus is a very strong steel and can be used for very heavy duty tasks. Damascus vs Stainless Steel have pros and cons, we will get into that in the section below. First, let us talk about what we offer here at Artisan Bound and it may help you decide what type of knife fits your desired needs. We offer Antler, Bone, and Wood handles for our knives. All knives have both Stainless Steel and Damascus options for all three of our handle types. You will find we have a great mixture of options suited for everyone's tastes in blade and handle types.

Damascus Pros:
Very tough and durable
Beautiful Patterns, Every Blade Is One Of a Kind
Rare, You can not find these types of steel in most stores!

Damascus Cons:
Requires maintenance after use, Damascus needs to be oiled and stores to maintain a rust free long lasting blade. Oil also helps bring the wave patterns out in a more vibrant way.

Stainless Steel Pros:
Rust Proof Blade
Durable and great for general needs
No maintenance beyond normal sharpening and cleans
No Oil needs to maintain quality and durability

Stainless Steel Cons:
Widely Available At Just About Any Store
Not Unique Compared to Damascus Patterns
Not a durable / strong as Damascus Steel

So as we can see here from the pros and cons of the two types of steel, both have their ups and downs. Depending on what you seek in a knife will determine which option is best for your new handmade one of a kind knife. If you ever have any questions (with any of our products) feel free to email us at www.ArtisanBound.com anytime! We respond within 24 hours all year round (weekends and holidays included).
