These items take time to create, and in order to provide top quality we need time spent in the shop to create truly unique one of a kind items. Here at www.NorthRustic.com we offer our knife blades in two types / styles. Most popular is our Damascus Steel, which is a high carbon steel. This style is very appeals to look at and is a very strong blade. However, in the case of Hammered vs Damascus, this post is to discuss pros and cons of each style. Not to designs appeal to look at, but more the specifics of the blade material. When we compare the two steel types, most people will go for Damascus for the unrivaled beauty the blade offers. On the other hand, Damascus as mentioned in a strong, high carbon steel blade. This means you will need to have the blade oiled when stored / not used. A little bit of Olive Oil is all you need to maintain a beautiful blade for years to come. Should you neglect to care for the blade, however, it may rust. Caring for a Damascus blade is actually very simple, as many options are available to oil / lube the blade when stored or after use. But should you neglect to keep the blade clean and oiled, it can rust. If rusting was to occur, there are ways to remove it. Aside from the maintenance, a Damascus blade is very strong and durable. Many of our customers keep collections of our Damascus knives, as each blade is very unique from the next.

Current Projects To Kick Off 2019!

This year at North Rustic we have a few new designs and jewelry projects in the works. We have launched the 2019 year with 60 new Karambit Folding knives in Wood, Deer Antler, Ram Horn, and Bone. These models are now live and active for sale on our site. We are in the process of refining wood into full tang handle scales, these will be for Fixed Blade Hunting Karambits. We plan our next batch of knives to include 20 folding knives and 30 fixed Blade Karambit knives. We plan to do half in Olive Wood and half in Walnut Wood for this next batch or ready to ship items.

On our Jewelry section, we have been working on Deer Antler carved pendants. This little wearable pieces of art are very unique, and require a large amount of time to finely detail these antler pendants. There are many designs to come, Wolves, Bear, Owls, Eagles, and more more animal designs will be hand carved on these pendants. Going forward, we will be offering leather and chain necklace options for our necklace selections. You will be able to select leather or chain at checkout, as well as if you want the necklace beaded or standard.

Stay tuned with North Rustic as we move from January to Feburary. Our project are started, but we still have a couple weeks to have everything done and live. The Karambit, Inspired By The Claw Of the Tiger

For those who are new with us here today, here at NorthRustic.com we take knife blanks (sample photo shown above) and refine materials to create our own handles. We use many types of materials, such as Antler, Ram Horn, Bone, and several Wood variations. We process the material down to scales (refined to shadow the full tang blank) then set the handle materials in the full tang with pins. We have had many types of hunting knife styles, mainly hidden tang and full tang options. As of now, we have a growing focus on Full Tang, as it is the more reliable and durable option for hunting / utility. When we began adding full tang items to our line up, I came across a few karambit blanks. These were never high up on my list of desired knives, until I finish my first antler stag handle Karambit. The way the handle felt in my was something different, the curve in blade and handle flowed in a way I had not yet come to appreciate. Now, after 15 years of loving knives I finally can say my favored hunting blade is Karambit knives. The blade is able to be used in many ways out in the field, and can be held in the hand comfortably either direction. The Karambit is a very unique and versatile option of knife. When I first started taking knife blanks and refining them never did I expect that my journey with North Rustic would lead me from my more traditional style of fixed blade. If you have never had a chance to try out a Karambit knife, I would suggest giving it a go! They are something every knife owner should consider keeping. The unique feel of these curved blades is unmatched!
